THE DETAILS WILL PERTAIN TO THE PLAIN AND STRIPE
The inner of the baskets are made from a Rice Reed called Penjy in Malagasy.
After the rice is harvested and the rice has been threshed from the reed they then dry the reed then it is hand woven into the various shapes and sizes used for the basket inner.
The sisal is harvested from the Sisal plant which is a type of Aloe type plant or succulent. They use the fibre from the plant.
This is also hand woven and dyed. There are no UV stabilisers used in the dyes so retailers should take care when displaying their baskets that they do not expose them for long periods of time to the sun or you might get a fade.
The handles and corners are made from the Leather of the Zebu or common water buffalo. This is the Malagasy sacred animal and they really value all the materials obtained from the animal from its meat to its bones horns and leather. Nothing is wasted.
